My name is Liia Syvak, and I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of David’s family. His story came to me through Irina, who was David’s nanny for years and a close friend of mine. She still loves him like her own. These are her words:

“David is 10 years old - a cheerful, smart, kind boy. For about three years he has suffered from severe nausea and sharp, cramping pain in different parts of his stomach. It is slowly getting worse. Most nights he can’t sleep; some nights the pain lasts almost until morning, and then he has to get up for his online classes. I spent many of those nights sitting next to him and saw with my own eyes how much he suffers.”

The family has done what they could. David has had some tests and tried some treatments, but it hasn’t been enough. He needs a thorough diagnostic workup to find the cause, and then treatment that the family can no longer pay for on their own.

The hardest part is hearing a child say he doesn’t believe he will ever feel better. No 10-year-old should carry that.

David lives with his parents and younger brother in a city in eastern Ukraine that is shelled regularly. The family used to support themselves and help others. That changed with the war. His father can’t leave Ukraine, and earning the way they once did is no longer possible.

Time matters here. The sooner doctors find the cause, the better David’s chances of avoiding complications that may not be reversible.

How you can help

  • Give what you can. $1, $5 or $10 really does add up when many people give.

  • Share this page. If you can’t give, sending it to one person who can is just as valuable.

We want David to sleep through the night, enjoy being a kid, and believe in his future again.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who helps. May God bless you for your kindness.
